Dialphio drifted to the back corner of the first floor. Dust hung in the air here, in the least loved part of the store. A maple and glass case held valuable, irreplaceable books that were thousands of years old and drew a great profit margin when they sold, I imagined. The problem was? No one ever bought them. Customers just didn't care about obscure titles from thousands of years ago.

The lighting back here didn't help.

"I can replace the bulb before we leave," I said, pointing at the sconce where the light coming from the bulb looked more sky blue than the Hellfire's azure.

"No, no." Dialphio shook her head. "I like it this way. Keeps customers away."

I chuckled. "Hardly a responsible business decision."

"I don't want them here."

My suspicions grew. "Why?"

She paused at the corner of the wall. A lazy footstep had been dragged through a fine layer of sawdust.

"Ah, I get to see the secret entrance? Why not Bilba and Ralrek?"

"This isn't about the construction project." She placed the flat of her hand on the wall. "I am doing this for you."

"Doing what?"

She pushed against the wall and I heard something click from the other side. "Ezekial, she wanted to see you. She's heartbroken, and I couldn't deny her. Please be patient. Don't be angry with me."

"Dialphio? What's going on?"

When she took the pressure off the door, it slid open. Dialphio stepped back and her secret chamber opened. "Lilith wanted to do this without your father around. Go. Talk to her."
